talbott tavern

The last two weeks have been so busy as we have had two Bourbon Legends Tour back to back.  I took a self care day in between to enjoy the beautiful weather and help my pretty lady locate a few more graves in Bardstown.  If someone had told me years ago that I would be visiting cemeteries wearing a ‘Support Your Local Cemetery’ hoodie I would have laughed my head off. But here I am and I have to say I’m really enjoying my new hobby.

St. Joseph Cemetery was our first stop.  My pretty lady opted to walk the north side of the cemetery and I headed south.  I was not surprised when she called me less than five minutes later saying she found the grave we were looking for.  She is fairly quick especially when some location details are given on Findagrave.com.  To her surprise I had gotten picked up by a friendly volunteer named Mr. Bevins in a white pick up truck. He was eager to assist and of course he liked my hoodie.  Mr. Bevin plans on being buried in St. Joseph Cemetery and showed us where his final resting place is.  Shout out to Mr. Bevin! I hope to run into him again.

I have been to Bardstown countless times for dinner and even worked out there everyday for years, but I had never eaten Old Talbott Tavern before. I was excited as I have heard great things about their menu. And the past two tours we have given we have stopped at Old Talbott Tavern for a comfort break and to hit the gift shop.  Our guests have really enjoyed the historic charm of Old Talbott Tavern.

I wish I could remember our server’s name. She embodied the warmth and friendliness Bardstown is famous for.  My pretty lady made the comment she has a smile as welcoming as Kentucky sunshine.  Our server was a reminder that, in the end, it’s the people who make a place truly special.

My pretty lady ordered the corn beef rueben, something she had been craving for quite some time. I ordered the blackened shrimp and grits with a side of Woodford Reserve Double Oaks.  My shrimp and grits was DELICIOUS!  It was topped with sautéed peppers, cheddar cheese, onions, and plenty of crispy, smoky bacon.  And if that was enough I ordered the bread pudding which had just come out of the oven. It was as equally delicious.

My pretty lady said the corn beef was tender and succulent.  She declared it right then and there it was one of the best reuben’s she had ever eaten.

Our server pointed out on the menu that Old Talbott Tavern has an app available with a self-guided audio tour.  Of course I had to download it.  I enjoyed the audio tour and found it to be captivating.  Check out their app, ya’ll.

Can’t wait to get back to Old Talbott Tavern.  Next time I’m ordering the Jesse James’ Ribeye!

Bardstown Cemetery is so beautiful!

Shrimp & Grits can’t be beat.
