Cuvee Wine table
On Valentine's Day, my girlfriend and I have a unique way of enjoying the element of surprise by not making dinner reservations in advance. Instead, we like to keep things spontaneous by constantly checking Open Table every thirty minutes to see what reservations become available throughout the day. It adds an exciting twist to our celebration as we eagerly anticipate what restaurants become available and are open to whatever opportunity arises. My pretty lady likes the sense of adventure. It’s a thrill of not knowing where we will end up.
Last year to our surprise we landed at LeMoo. They did it up right with single red roses from Maker’s Mark and a beautiful backdrop for photos. One day I’ll share details about our dinner there and how the server disrespected my pretty lady when she ordered the burger.
Back to last night, White Castles all over the Louisville area had reservations available all day. My pretty lady can’t handle White Castle in a capacity so that was not an option. Also, we did not feel like driving more than 10 minutes away. While Jeff Ruby’s, Swizzle, Sway, Parlour, and Lou Lou popped up we were holding out for a place a little bit closer to us. Ta-da - an 8:15 PM reservation for Cuvee Wine Table became available at 6 PM. We snatched it up quickly. Last week, we reminisced about eating a Cuvee almost a year ago and how much we enjoyed it.
Cuvee exudes a chill vibe. It’s a cozy ambiance, with dim lighting, and welcoming atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a long day. We like soft music playing in the background and overall laid-back charm. It was not crowded after 8 PM. It honestly felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Partly because our server was the most attentive server I have ever had. She was so attentive my pretty lady met her daily water intake goal which normally doesn’t happen.
The decor works as it’s mostly bottles of wine. I have only two complaints about the appearance of Cuvee. The appearance of the tiles in the restaurant seemed quite unclean and bore a striking resemblance to bathroom tiles. The dirt and grime gave off a neglected and unsanitary vibe
My other complaint is about the tables. I get that restaurants want to go with sleek and minimalistic design to contrast with the elegant decor, but honestly their basic tables was a jarring clash and simply out of place.
I will choose to remember the great service and delicious entrees we both enjoyed. I started with Chardonnay from Rombauer Vineyards which was recommended for the entree I ordered which was pan-seared shrimp, scallops, lump crab with baby bell mushrooms, Bermuda Onions, cherry tomatoes, asparagus tips in a lavender chardonnay cream sauce with fettuccine. For those who have been reading my blog since the start you know that I love scallops. And I want to declare right here right now, that the scallops at Cuvee were in the Top 3 I have ever eaten.
And one word to describe the lavender chardonnay cream sauce: luxurious! It was fragrant and rich truly adding to the element of surprise we were going for by not planning our dinner in advance.
My pretty lady ordered the rosemary smoked beef short rib with English peas, cremini mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and white wine haricot vests (French green beans). She declared to me that those were the best-mashed potatoes she had eaten in years. I believe her.
We left Cuvee feeling satisfied and grateful. Thank you to whoever canceled their reservation that we were able to use!
I’ll share what my pretty lady gave me later this year!
